Kat’s Ice Challenge for ‘Shocking Pink’ Breast Cancer Charity

I’ve just completed the Ice Challenge.
I risked electrocution in my LED-lit t-shirt and nearly drowned, (as I tried to inhale, the water went up my nose). Better still, this video will be available for everyone to see – forever, so I’ll look ridiculous as long as the internet exists.

But hey, it was for a good cause.

It’s true there’s no relevance between the ice challenge and chemo, in fact – chemo apparently doesn’t feel like anything – just makes you feel sick. But it can make you lose your hair, so patients who want to keep their hair have started wearing ‘Penguin Cold Caps’, that ‘freeze’ the hair folicle and prevent hair loss during chemo.     It’s still nothing like having a bucket of ice poured over you though. A bag of peas in your freezer is around -11 degrees, and a penguin-cold-cap is more like -35.

The Ice Challenge is more about making you feel ridiculous. Then you allow someone to record your stunt, immortalize it online, and after a warm shower, you upload the video and make a donation to charity. 

After learning about Penguin Cold Caps I decided the stunt had some relevance after all, so I agreed to go through with it.

I chose Shocking Pink Shocking Pink as my charity because they have supported a couple of our Beautyfx techs. Those ladies continue to support me, and I want to keep the circle going around and around. Respect and love to my friends – Ness Kaye, Suzy Mitchell and Jennifer Doolabh.

To those who take up the challenge, Be safe.

Alcohol is not a part of the challenge so the shots/cold drink isn’t necessary, and if you have a medical condition don’t use ice – just dress yourself up extra pretty , and allow a friend to splash 3 buckets of water over you until you look terrible – then upload that video and pay your donation to your charity. Remember to post a copy of your receipt for your donation to your charity.
